Who else (besides me) has difficulty letting go of things, circumstances, people, that we know should not be part of our lives anymore. Personally, I have trouble releasing those thoughts and memories that I know keep me from moving forward and hold me back like an anchor. And yet I just don’t want to get rid of them. Go figure!
A more common example though is the clothes we all keep in our closets that we haven’t worn in several years. They used to fit us but somehow they shrank in the dryer. However, we just know that with this new diet or exercise program we’re on we will be able to fit into them again. After all, those clothes are still just like new.
Holding on to clothes is just the tip of the iceberg. We all hold on to or have held on to relationships or feelings for example we know do not benefit us but we’re afraid to let them go.
I am sure if you think about it, and I’m sure you won’t have to think very hard, you have something that is holding you back that isn’t serving your best interest but you just refuse to let them go.
I’ve collected some quotes, not mine unfortunately, that I hope will help you think about some of the things you refuse to release and whether or not it is in your best interest to hold on to them.
